Over the past year, we’ve been working behind the scenes with Janrain, the company that pioneered the Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) category, to create Janrain’s Advanced Policy Manger, powered by Symphonic. Advanced Policy Manager offers granular, centralised management of access-control policies, helping customers reduce policy management costs and offer significantly greater flexibility and ease of use.
We’re really excited to be working with Janrain – it’s a company we’ve been watching with interest for some time as it has an incredible track record of innovation. Janrain’s customer identity management offering is a great fit for our authorisation service and the newly launched integrated Advanced Policy Manager is the culmination of this.
Access management is moving further up the corporate agenda as a hot topic, especially ahead of GDPR – coming next May. As it stands today, access authorisation is typically fragmented and distributed across multiple functions within an enterprise, hard-coded into various local applications and implemented using a variety of non-standard techniques and technologies. This disjointed approach makes policy changes cumbersome, costly to implement, hard to document or audit and, most importantly, unsecure and error-prone.
With Advanced Policy Manager, brands can easily create and manage business rules that define who is authorised to access a particular website, mobile application, IP-connected device or a specific resource or product, and under what conditions.
Advanced Policy Manager is easy and intuitive to use for both technical and non-technical users, allowing rules at any level of granularity. Policy management is centralised and abstracted from underlying applications, allowing developers to rapidly modernise legacy apps and/or build new digital applications without managing policy. This offers users a clear single view for authorisation logic, regardless of the number of applications involved. With all access rules in one place, CIAM is not only easier to manage, but businesses can also illustrate their compliance in an increasingly regulated space.
