In-memory computing (IMC) used to be an option only for larger companies with deep pockets. But, because the price of RAM has decreased significantly, companies of all sizes can now use this platform to process real-time data. The main advantage of IMC is the storage of data in the RAM on multiple computers, which decreases the impact of the data on performance. By storing data in RAM instead of on a disk, the speed increases exponentially. Without IMC, companies do not have access to the full capabilities of technologies such as big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. A company simply cannot maximize the business impact of today’s technology without access to both data and speed.

Although several vendors are in the IMC space, one of the leaders in IMC product is GridGain. Its March 2014 release of the In-Memory Computing Platform makes the technology even more accessible to companies and works toward the democratization of the IMC industry.

What Is the GridGain In-Memory Computing Platform?

The In-Memory Computing Platform is a platform that is compatible with a variety of industries, including financial trading systems, online gaming, bioinformatics, hyper local advertising, cognitive computing, and geospatial analysis. A key feature is the included Data Grid that provides significant scalability. The product also provides in-memory streaming using complex event processing and streaming processing. The product also includes an in-memory file system that is compatible with Hadoop. Additionally, the MapReduce features provide a 100 times increase in performance with minimal integration.
